Vice President, Sales

Large independent book distributor seeks a Vice President of Sales to head its North American sales organization. This individual will drive sales in current and emerging channels, grow sales revenue through savvy sales force management, manage mutually profitable relationships with client publishers, and help build new publisher partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage sales organization, including the senior sales executives who oversee the national accounts group and the field sales organization and product group.
  • Drive new initiatives in special markets and digital publishing.
  • Create an annual sales budget, including separate forecasts by client and account.
  • Develop analytic tools and metrics to support planning, sales reporting, sales performance management and effectiveness, and profitability measurement.
  • Support inventory management through ongoing systematic forecasting and publisher and field communications.
  • Fully develop and maintain relationships with client publishers and other external business partners to achieve maximum sales impact across channels.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive trade sales management, experience with special markets, and current involvement in e-publishing. Superior negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the industry, key national accounts, and non-book trade accounts.
  • Must have a high level of enthusiasm and energy, and a good sense of humor.
  • Strong motivational and communication skills are essential.
  • Leadership ability a must.
  • Relationship-building skills are paramount.
