Kathy Berlowe joined Bert Davis in 1990, after having had a substantial career in the publishing industry. As a Senior Vice President for the search team, Kathy works with a wide variety of companies, from traditional blue chip publishing firms to new media companies in e-commerce and e-learning.

Prior to coming to Bert Davis, Kathy spent thirteen years in the publishing industry working as a sales and marketing specialist in a variety of areas. Her experience in both the publishing and the search businesses makes Kathy a strong contributor to the Bert Davis group and a knowledgeable consultant to the industry at large.

Vice President, Advertising Sales for Consumer Markets, Healthcare Division

The Vice President, Advertising Sales will direct and manage a staff of dedicated in-house and outsourced advertising sales reps, and ad sales billing department to meet and increase company revenue goals for medical and nursing journals and websites in the healthcare division. This would include a portfolio of proprietary and society journals and other related products (newsletters, special sponsor-driven projects, supplements and websites) directed at the consumer (patient) and professional reader. In addition, s/he will be responsible for ensuring that billings are continually reviewed against divisional goals to prevent shortfalls and/or slowdowns in revenue production. This will be accomplished by maintaining a consistent pipeline of billings through persistent follow-up with new and repeat customers and new business development, specifically in the consumer markets.

 Responsibilities:

  • Creating and monitoring sales budgets and forecasts/reforecasts.
  • Providing strategic tools to enable efficient and thorough field reports to build a direct flow of information.
  • Developing and implementing short- and long-term strategic goals to grow individual and general portfolio revenues, i.e., for both vertical and interdisciplinary programs.
  • Developing and implementing targeted new business, with emphasis in the consumer healthcare markets.
  • Managing and motivating a staff through regular communication and mentoring where needed.
  • Maintaining clear and consistent communication with SVP, GM of the division regarding sales performance, market trends, promotion efforts and departmental issues.
  • Working closely with other departments in driving advertising sales and planning sales activities to meet financial goals and launch new products.

 Requirements:

  • Track record in selling into new markets or breaking new ground.
  • Understanding of and relationships with consumer advertisers in healthcare markets.
  • Understanding of and relationships in the pharma community.
  • Excellent communication and podium skills; ability to be persuasive and to build a consistent and powerful sales message both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of the growing patient information market.
  • Very good financial skills, both in reporting and reforecasting as market shifts occur.
  • Experience in selling both print and online advertising space.
  • Experience in selling advertising programs into new technologies (PDAs, telecomm devices, etc.).
  • Ability to manage, motivate and train sales staff to take ownership of their accounts.
  • Ability to be “top salesman/woman” whenever necessary.
  • Ability to act as a conduit for market trends – be an idea generator for eCommerce and other types of online business opportunities.
  • Experience in designing competitive compensation plans with opportunities for high-performing employees.
