A leading, growth-oriented electronic publisher in the humanities and social sciences seeks a Chief Financial Officer to develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems. This position reports directly to the President and is a member of the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
- Approve and direct changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems. Key areas include recommending and implementing a royalties system and a subscription database system.
- Prepare and reconcile consolidated financial reports for multi-currency companies.
- Coordinate and oversee the preparation of financial statements, perform financial analyses, and prepare management-level state-of-the-business reports. Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders.
- Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, and policies, and develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures.
- Assist and direct foreign company setups, including registration, financial structure, operational procedures, etc.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax and filing requirements.
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
- Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives.
- Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with GAAP.
- Serve on planning and policy-making committees.
- Represent the company externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, and the general public.
